John M. Tuhey, a corporate attorney with sixteen years of experience advising companies of all size both domestically and globally. John has spent his career as a key advisor or member of the management team of numerous small, mid and large cap public companies. He regularly counsels clients in areas of complex commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, litigation, bankruptcy, leasing, securities law, antitrust, compliance, employment, board matters and corporate structure. John has significant experience in the areas of commercial dispute resolution, complex commercial transactions, intellectual property licensing and mergers and acquisitions. He has successfully completed more than sixty transactions, which includes directing the sale of Click Commerce, Inc. to Illinois Tool Works Inc.

John makes it a priority to learn his clients business and their needs and his clients value him for being a sound, pragmatic advisor on risks facing their businesses. He also regularly partners with his clients to deliver presentations to his clients about industry trends and legal outcomes.

Prior to starting The Tuhey Law Firm, John was an Associate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary for Illinois Tool Works Inc. serving the global legal needs for their highly successful automotive segment. Before that John was Vice President and General Counsel for Click Commerce, Inc., Counsel for the Business Development Group at Tellabs, Inc. and numerous management roles at the Chicago Housing Authority.


  • Co-lenders counsel on large syndicated term and revolver loan for manufacturing client.

  • Negotiated comprehensive environmental agreement with Fortune 150 company for the remediation and closure of significant environmental issues at manufacturing client. 

  • Negotiated the purchase of two digital media companies involved in video content distribution for major media company.

  • Successfully advised and settled safety recall dispute with major OEM and automotive manufacturing client.

  • Negotiated the sale of family-owned certified WBE business to another WBE owned business. 

  • Negotiated the sale of significant piece of intellectual property to large multi-national corporation from family owned business. 

  • Served as Corporate Counsel for two automotive manufacturing companies.

  • Served as lead counsel for formation and A round fundraise for venture start-up.

  • Currently serve as Corporate Counsel for several private and public companies, including technology services, construction products and a pet insurance company.
